Quartz sand is a fundamental material for a wide range of construction applications that require high quality and durability. At Maliouris Group, staying true to our commitment to high quality products, we mine natural materials, such as quartz sand or gravel, from our privately owned Sand Mine in Axiochori Kilkis.
Quartz sand as well as the other products of the Axios Sand Mine are subjected to strict quality controls in order to meet the highest requirements of our customers.
In this article we will look at the advantages of quartz or river sand in construction and we will refer to all the products of Axios Sand Mine from fine sand to gravel. In addition, we will mention the factors that can affect the relationship between sand (river sand) - price, such as particle size and of course purity.
Depending on the particle size in which it is available, river sand has many applications in the construction sector. Among other things, it is used in mortars, but also as a raw material for the manufacture of the Maliouris Group's solid roof tiles, which meet the highest international quality standards.
In particular, the Axios Sand Mine produces pure quartz sand without impurities of soil and other materials, which is a guarantee for the success of any construction project. Below we will see in detail all the products of Axios Sand Mine:
When we refer to coarse river sand, we are talking about a component that offers excellent durability in asphalt mixes and concrete for roads, but also for airport runways. In addition, coarse river sand can be used in flooring and plasters, in water filters, and also in railway lines.
Its particle size range is from 0 to 4 mm. In fact, as regards coarse quartz sand, its value usually differs from that of sand with a smaller particle size.
Moderate quartz sand offers, due to its size, excellent flexibility and can therefore be used in many areas depending on the result that each manufacturer wants to achieve.
In particular, it is used in cement and concrete, increasing the strength of the finished product. Sand is also an essential ingredient in plasters and mortars, reinforcing both strength and flexibility, and is also used in road paving. Its particle size range is from 0 to 3 mm. In moderate quartz sand the price usually also depends on the size of the order.
Fine quartz sand is used as an admixture in cement to improve its strength, but also for the construction of plasters and mortars, as it offers strength. It is also used in the production of concrete to improve its resistance to weather conditions and friction.
Its particle size range is from 0 to 2 mm. At Maliouris Group you will find fine quartz sand at a highly competitive price, both packaged and in bulk.
The very small pebble with a particle size range of 0 to 7 mm, which is mainly used in architectural and decorative applications. Also, both split and quartz sand are often used in sports facilities such as stadiums.
Drilling gravel or rubble has a particle size larger than sand and is placed at the bottom of a borehole. The gravel helps to stabilize the walls of the borehole by preventing the soil from collapsing and protects the filters from foreign bodies entering the borehole. Also, this gravel allows better water circulation and ensures the proper functioning of a borehole.
Gravel is an inert material consisting of very small stones, usually rounded and resembling rice grains. Gravel is used in special types of plasters and mortars to give a rougher texture, but also in decoration e.g. in gardens and aquariums.
The main difference between drilling gravel and gravel is the size of the grains. Drilling gravel has larger grains and is mainly used for technical applications, whereas gravel (4-8mm) has much smaller grains and is mainly used for decorative and construction applications.
The sand mining process consists of four stages, which we will report in detail below:
River sand is available in 1 ton packages from V. MALIOURIS S.A.
As far as quartz sand is concerned, the price depends on a number of factors such as:
The particle size of the sand is one of the most important factors affecting the price. In particular, for coarse quartz sand the price is higher than for fine quartz sand.
The purity of the sand, i.e. the absence of soil or other materials, has a significant influence on the price. When it comes to pure river sand, the price is certainly higher than for sand sold with any impurities.
If the sand has undergone some special processing, such as washing or separation by particle size, the price will be higher.
The quantity of sand also affects the price on an order. This means that bulk (river) sand and its price depend on the size of the order.
